Progress

Well we have a correction clinic on Friday, 8/23, and I must say that it went well. I haven't worked Kayla formally in a while and I must say that she performed well. We did one run in the Open ring, as there were quite a few people that showed up and I didn't want to wait that long.

The break down. I did the heel in confidence. She went wide on her second about turn so I had her do it again and her first sit was a half point crooked. I went back to wow for the figure eight and it was very nice. Good attention on the left have and driving into position for the right have, with prompt, straight sits. I went back to confidence for the drop on recall. She has always done this exercise very well. Her fronts are now consistently straight, with only minor deductions while on the flat with out the dumbbell. I started the retrieve on the flat in confidence, but needed to correct her very sloppy front. I should have taken and praised the effort, but our retrieve is very strong and it would hurt the exercise. I will need to go back and work on that piece. I stayed in confidence for the retrieve of high and broad jump. I doubted that she would take the jump coming back to be because my throw of the bell was so far off, but she did. Always trust your dog. She finished with a magnificent broad jump. The first time I did the broad with out her cone and she was spot on! We finished with sits and downs.

I should start focusing on our gloves and articles for utility. I'm hoping to get our final CD leg at the upcoming Forest City trial, then debut in Open at the South Side All Breed on our home turf.

Howdy, Everybody!

I guess I should introduce our rather large family. We have five dogs to the two of us humans. Too large you say, just right we say. Our dogs are not only companions, they are athletes. They compete sports ranging from Obedience to Tracking. Four are rescues and one in from a breeder here in Illinois, our only intact dog. Interested in who they are? Well, why not introduce them! (Registered name followed by Call name)

Toby King of the Hounds CSL1-H CSL1-F CSL1-R CGC TDI, Toby
6 year old Basset Hound

Bailey Morgan CL1 CL2 TN-N NJC CGC, Bailey
5 year old Foxhound mix

ARCHX U-CD Sandy's Claim to Fame RE RL1 RL1X RL2 RL2X CTL1-H CTL1-F CTL1-R CGC, Sand
5 year old Labrador Retriever - No. 2 dog Level 2 2006 APDT Rally-O

ARCH U-CD Hi-Jinks Second Chance RN RL1 RL1X RL2 RL3 CL1 CGC TDI, Kayla
2 year old Labrador Retriever - No. 7 dog Level 2 2007 APDT Rally-O

Northwoods Seven-Ten Split, The Dude
5 month old Basset Hound

It's going to be an exciting rest of the year and many years to come. It's quite the hodge-podge of dogs here, but they keep up laughing. Kayla is the evil one of the bunch and is always into something. Sand is the grouchy older sister. Bailey is at the bottom of the pack, while Toby is the top dog of the four leggers. The Dude just goes with the flow. He provides the comic relief.

I'm excited about the prospect to keep track of our rowdy bunch and also our training sessions.

Happy Training!
