Hi Adam

I am attaching a photo of me and my Best Friend – Logan. I bought your book and videos about 8 months ago now and I can tell you that they have been used tremendously. Logan always use to pull me on my walks and I just hated it. He would not give me attention if his life depended on it. Well I finally decided that his “life did depend on it”. I don’t mean that in a “put him to sleep” way, what I meant was that if a dangerous situation came upon us and he was not willing to provide me with the attention – or should I say respect, that I needed, then something disasterous would happen.

Well Logan is such a wonderful and obedient dog. We used the remote collar for his recalls and I can say without a doubt, that Logan’s recalls are 100% solid. He now provides me with the attention that I need when walking him. We are competing competitively in obedience and at a recent fun match, Logan received High in Trial (11 dogs entered in total). So you can only imagine how pleased I am for both myself and Logan.

It was very important for me to ensure that Logan is a well behaved and well socialized Rottweiler. He is a 2 1/2 yr. old intact male so again you can see why it is very important that I am the driver in this car and that Logan is the passenger. Logan is an extremely high drive and well accomplished young man. He received both his Am. and Canadian Championships prior to 15 months of age. He has an advanced tracking title (TDX) which he garnered at the young age of 21 months. I just want people to know who read your books that these methods work on all sorts of dogs.

Young, old, small, big, pets and show dogs. I have read many many books on training but yours by far was the one that worked for us. Logan was purely on positive training until about a year and then that stopped working so we had to go to a more intensive program. Logan excelled at your program – I am proud to say he is a full fledged graduate of the Adam Katz School of Training. At no point in our training did I think that any of your methods were cruel or unusual. They were magic and worked each and every time I
tried it.

Thank you.

— Gwen Haynes
Canada

P.S. My professional handler on Logan also thanks you. He not only listens to me but to any one that handles him now – it was the excellent foundation training that Logan received that enables him to be passed to anyone and he will listen and respect them.

I am attaching a couple of pics. of Logan doing his obedience work with me. Just look at the attention I am getting from him. He won’t take his eyes off of me !!!

August 4, 2006 Update: “Logan is doing great. He just won our big Sieger show and took Most Beautifuil Rottweiler in Show over 104 Rotties. He finished out in AKC for 2005 as #3 All Breed and #6 Breed for Rottweilers in the US. ”

Hi, Adam –

I haven’t had a dog for 25 years, so when I decided my current lifestyle would finally make it doable, I decided to do some research to make sure I was starting out on the right foot.

(Lots of methods have changed since I last had a dog and I wanted to be current.) So months before my puppy (a Coton named “Aldo”) was even a twinkle in his mom’s eye I discovered and downloaded your book.

Since then I have re-read it and referred to it on numerous occasions. Although I have also read and used a few other books this is the one I always go to first. And I always read your regular newsletter.

I started working with Aldo from day one 8 months ago as a 12 week old puppy, even learning to heel, and he learned everything very quickly, some things faster than others. (It was also helpful that this particular breed produces a lively but mellow and attentive dog.) I would work with him for short periods several times a day – sometimes just a few minutes, other times as long as10 minutes – wherever I could fit it in.
And I’d usually make him “work” for most everything he gets to reinforce it. It’s been a joy to see him make progress! One cool thing was to see him not “get” something I was trying to teach him one day and then the very next day with the first attempt he “got it”!

Obviously he had somehow assimilated it, producing a change in his brain so that he was able to perform as though he had been doing it all along. It was so amazing to see that on any number of occasions!

Hello Adam;

Thanks to you, I have the perfect Service Dog!

Your matter of fact approach is both easy to understand and implement because you explain why a dog thinks the way that he does.

Due to your training methods… Jasper has become not only a calm and wonderful companion but a well trained working dog. He can accompany me anywhere, out to dinner, the mall, airports you name it,… and we always get tons of compliments especially when they ask what program he came from and I explain he is owner trained!

He is trained to assist me with balance and braces me as we walk, he also anticipates my gait weaknesses which is always changing due to my Multiple Sclerosis and he will adjust himself to meet my balance needs.

He is also trained to help me get up from a sitting position or if I fall he will help me to stand, or get help for me if necessary. He loves to go get the mail or deliveries and bring them back to me with a single command, and our driveway is over 200 ft long! He has a totally reliable retrieve and can identify over 10 different objects by name. Most of this I attribute to your wonderful insight and advice thru your website and newsletters…

I am including a picture of Jasper and I at the Plaza Casino in Las Vegas from our last visit there.

THANK YOU

— Sheryl and Jasper “the night raider” SD, Riverside, Ca.

P.S. Remember: One person CAN make a difference!

You share so much great information with us so I thought I would share this with you. I have learned so, so much from your book, videos, tapes, and emails. I find myself repeating your ideas to people who are not treating their pets fairly. Thanks.
— Mary Louise Henley
Hi Adam,

This morning, Abby and I had one of those moments where you feel an indescribable inner connection, which followed with thoughts of how I nearly gave up on her last February. She’s nearly one year old and still here. That’s because of you, and I want to thank you. You’ve been the main influence in her training.

My son took the attached picture. He was shocked that I allowed Abby on the couch. It’s a rare thing, so don’t slap my knuckles! I told him to take a picture because it would last longer. 🙂

“Sweet and to the point… with lots of positive reinforcement for a job well done.”

Hi Adam,

My name is Suzi Schaefers, owner of Suzi’s Custom Dog Training in Morrison, CO. I’ve been a professional dog trainer for 19 years and have owned my own business for 8. I wouldn’t want to do anything else, ever. I absolutely love what I do for a living.

I am writing to you to let you know that I am happy to see that another dog trainer (people trainer) who uses virtually the exact same training methods and techniques that I do…. all are done by you the way they’re done by myself.

Here in CO there are dozens of dog trainers in the metro area, each with his or her own ideas on how a dog and its human should communicate. Only one, my mentor, trains dogs the way I do, the way you do. Short, sweet and to the point and with lots of positive reinforcement for a job well done.

Just out of curiosity, I downloaded ‘Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer’ many months ago and I felt like I was reading my own book!

Thank you for your time, effort and dedication to our line of work. The world needs more dog trainers like us!

Very sincerely,
— Suzi Schaefers

Dear Adam:

Old, young, pit bull, mastiff, chihuahua, healthy or ill… they are loved here with my hubby and the 3 cats. And no fights, no running loose outside, no chewing of furniture. I know I train mainly with my heart, but I go by the same tenents you do: Understand their pack life and use it to your advantage. Love your book,
— Wendy and Tim Bartlett

“My dog Murphy is doing so good. Thanks to you and your “secrets” I think that my husband can finally tolerate her. I had a very hard time getting her to get the idea to go potty outside. Now when she needs to go, she will go and stand by the door and wait until I let her out. She figured it out in less than a week! She is very smart–probably a little smarter than me!! Thanks again Adam!”
— Rebecca Fabiano, somewhere in cyberspace

“I sit on an Animal Control board, and part of our duties include sitting as a hearing body for dogs that have been deemed vicious and a danger to the community at large. I wish I could give most of these owners a copy of your program! As the owner of a small kennel myself, I admire your straight forward, down to earth techniques and advice.” — Lynn Alexander, Moose Creek, AK

“Today is the 4th day of practicing (we practice for about 10 min a day) and he heels quietly on my left and turns when I turn. I am so amazed.” — Pat Martin

Adam & Team,

I just wanted to share a couple of stories from this past weekend. The first one was from the local national chain pet store we visited this weekend. I couldn’t believe how many dogs had their owners out for a drag. You all know the scene, dog out in front by as far as the leash will allow, the owner almost at a jog repeatedly saying “No, stop”, “Heel”, “Come”, even “Whoa” all with zero response from their beloved pet. None of them in a pinch collar. To know that they could fix that problem in less than 30 minutes if they only had the knowledge and/or desire to fix it had me actually chuckling to myself. BTW, Keegan my Red Heeler was right at left side, maybe a step behind me but no further. Obviously there were the comments on how well behaved my dog was. The stunned looks when they asked where I took him for training and I responded that I had trained him were priceless.

The second is from the vet. Having just adopted Keegan I had him there for a check-up and his booster shots. Having only been using the techniques from the book for about a week I was curious to see how he would do with that many distractions. That many new smells, new dogs, new people, and new environment. I was AMAZED!!!! When we got there I let him sniff around a little then put him in a Sit/Stay and while he was still very alert and curious about all the things around him I only had to correct him twice in the 15 maybe 20 minutes that I was filling out paperwork and answering questions. Not bad at all for only a weeks work with minimal proofing around multiple distractions. Once in the exam room there were less sight distractions but still a ton of smells and sounds as well as techs doing all the usual exams. When the vet came in I had placed him in a Down/Stay and he didn’t move other than to look up and see who had just come in. The greatest pride came when the vet asked if he knew he was a Heeler and she couldn’t stop raving about how well behaved he was.

We have to take tests to get a drivers license, your book should be a prerequisite to owning a dog. It was so nice being out and knowing my companion would not only pay attention to ME but also do as I asked….the first time. Please keep up the good work, you are doing great things in making owner/dog relationships a positive and fulfilling thing to be a part of.

True believers,
Mike & Keegan

“Got your book and tape and a collar; Thank you, thank you, thank you! We’ve seen more positive results in the last 24 hours than we’ve had in the 8 weeks we’ve had her — if you need any testimonials, just ask!” — Julie Aloisio

Recently, the one year old has realized how easy it is to jump the fence of our yard and real havoc on our neighbors while they peacefully walk their dogs on a leash. After a couple of complaints (we live in a mobile home park) I knew I had to do something fast or be forced to give up the dog. But looking for a trainer or training system is not easy. There are so many out there, how do I know which one works? The clicker system sounded nice, but I couldn’t grasp how it would work. After reviewing several different sites, I decided to order your book. It made sense (I’ve watched many wolf documentaries) and I could start immediately by getting the book on-line. That was two and a half days ago. I can’t believe what results I’ve gotten from my stubborn, independent, dominant male Shiba Inu!” — [Didn’t want name printed]

“Hi, Its me – ‘the confused one.’ I have been reading your book and I am in love with it!”
— Jean Travis

“First of all: a big thank you for writing that book. It rescued my dog from going back to the pound! He is now a fairly well-behaved young dog, slowly turning into a well-behaved one.”
— Joelle De Jonge

“Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your book. My golden retriever puppy was pretty rambunctious, nipping, destructive, etc. until I let him know who was boss. Granted, he requires further training, but all the obnoxious behavior stopped immediately. I’ve been recommending your site to everyone. Thanks again.” — Rose Pedenko, Marina Del Rey, California

“Thanks, I received the book and all the extras the same day you replied to my original e-mail. The techniques are working wonderfully on both of my dogs. Now all I need to do is figure out how to teach them stupid pet tricks. ;)” — Eric Nelson

“I just wanted to send you a short email to say, ‘Thanks!’ for writing your book.” — Maria Retkofsky, Independent Beauty Consultant

“The single best thing about your book for me was it gave ME the motivation that I needed to train my dog and myself. It made me a better person and dog owner.” — Jeri Joy.

“I receive your weekly dog problems through e-mail and I have to tell you that your information is very informative and very helpful Being a Professional Dog Trainer here in Florida it is always helpful to listen to what others have to say regarding different problems and situations. I would just like to say thank you and I just ordered your book which I know will be excellent reading material.”
— Jon Linfield

“Day 1: spent the 10 minutes you say I can teach him to walk him on a loose lead. Actually took about 6 minutes!

Day 2: all 4 daily walks we took were on a loose lead. Instead of “bounding”, if another dog approached, we would sit and wait while they passed.

Day 3: Walked through town with Lefty by my side the whole time. It looks like a tight heel; however, he is really just walking by my side on a loose lead.”
— Nancy W. James

“I love your weekly email and look forward to getting it! I also have your book and it’s made me smarter!” — Phyllis T. Coristine, Sonalysts, Inc.

“First of all, congratulations for your great and humorous book and specially the speed of your mailing. I received it within 8 days!! For comparison, a book from Amazon.com takes 10 to 12 weeks!” — Yvonne Cambi, French Part of Switzerland

“I love your e-mail articles and your book!” — Laura Hanson and Daisy, Northwest Regional Sales Manager, Imagine Foods, Inc. (& Daisy… the dog.)

“I just wanted to thank you for the “get busy” tip. We have a new Basenji puppy, Kleo. I have taken her on a trip to San Francisco and she was so confused being out of her home and normal routine that she managed to use the carpet in our hotel room as her bathroom a couple of times (thank God for Resolve!) but thanks to your “get busy” tip she has figured out the where and when to “go” when out of her usual routine. Thanks for saving me my $100 doggie deposit to the hotel we stayed in! I recommend training your dog to “go” on command to EVERYONE!!! It is a true savior! Thanks again!!!” — Kleo’s Guardian, Kristine Diedrich

“Dear Mr. Katz: My letter has two main objectives. One, I purchased your book & I love it. I have purchased many dog training books & yours by far is one of the best books that I have read on dog training. So, I highly commend you on your book. I have used the tips & tricks in your book to help me maintain a good relationship with my dual purpose police dog. Thank You. Second, I would like to ask if there is any way that I can get another copy of my security code to download another copy of the book to my computer. The copy I had was lost due to an unforseen computer crash! I want the computer copy so that I can print it & highlight, make notes, and underline certain portions. My name and address for verification purposes are listed below. Thank You!” — Joe Rosenau, [Street # omitted] N. Oak Park Ave. Chicago, Illinois 60707

“Thank you for your wonderful “Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer.” It’s the best dog training book I’ve used thus far.” — Janice Zarinsky

“Just a quick note to say the book is great!! I was cracking up when I read about the “Three Types of Dog Training Fools!” I, of course, was seeing a combination of my “old” self! You’ll be pleased to know that I have been working very hard to correct all of MY bad behaviors. The book really helps. When I work with Skippy and have problems, there is always a section of the book I can review to help me problem solve. I work with him in the house and yard when we are home, and during the week I do at least an hour session (at the same time every day) walking in the neighborhood and playing in the park. So far, so good. Hopefully by time I hear from you, MY training problems will be on the mend. Thanks again for the great book”
— Lisa Taquino, Los Angeles, California

“Your book has been an inspiration.” — Brian Miller.

“Your book helped more than a professional trainer I hired for my adopted Golden.” — Mark Mallory, BMCHO

“Many, many thanks from the Martinez family, from Canada. For those people questioning themselves if they should buy the book…. There is no need to question… Just buy the book…!!!! I live in the east coast and spent the best darn Canadian $$$ for the book and tapes… It’s more than worth it…” — Martinez Family, from Canada.

“I just finished reading your book and must tell you I’m glad I spent the money on you! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Your book is great and exactly what I was looking for… mainly what really works!” — Javier Pabon, Pompano Beach, Florida 33060

“I would like to Thank You for your book and online discussion group. They have been tremendously helpful. I have a very special reason for demanding best behavior from my dog. I am disabled and use a power wheelchair 24/7. I have only the use of my right arm. Anyway, your book is written with such a practical working dog approach that it was extremely helpful. I’ve used a lot of books and email lists to help train Dakotah. Yours is always readily available and I refer to it over and over.” — Jodi & Dakotah

“I bought your book and received your tapes. I trained my son’s 6 month golden retriever to leave socks, towels, etc. alone & to release them on command when she did pick them up in 30 minutes using your alpha dog techniques. (She lock-jawed and snapped if you tried to pry her mouth open before).

Trained her to walk on a loose leash on the street, around other dogs and people and in the park where there are lots of distractions in 30 minutes. (She pulled liked a sled dog before).

Made my son and his wife a believer. The puppy trainer told them a slip collar and pinch collars were inhumane. When they got home on Sunday afternoon, they ran out to buy the collars (I have a 9 year old golden and used his collars).

I am now the ‘dog whisperer.’ ” — George Justice, Cedar Rapids, IA

“I love your book!” — Brad Cochran

“I just finished your book, learned a lot, and really enjoy you practical, common sense approach to dog behavior.” — Kris Sothard, Riverside, California

“I bought your book in February (currently on loan to a friend) – and it is the best! I followed your steps exactly for the 8 month old Chihuahua we adopted in January whom was supposedly housetrained. After only two weeks (I would say one week, but then he had one accident the following week), he was successfully completely housebroken and goes on command. He never goes when we are on a walk, and is VERY well trained (if I say so myself).” — Roxanne Kohlin,K & S Consulting

“I just wanted to tell you that you’re a miracle worker. I have a 14 month old poodle that I’ve had for 6 months. I had previously tried everything to get him to stop biting me (more playing, but the needle sharp teeth really hurt).” — Debbie Stallings

“I just wanted to say that out of all the research I have done on different methods of dog training, I have found that you are the only one that knows what’s going on. I read the weekly e-zine and answer each question, prior to reading your response. We answer the same.. Keep up the good work, I will be purchasing many of your products.” — Dan Proctor.

“Well, I seem to be suffering from information overload. I just finished reading your book. And Adam… of all the books I have, your book is the most comprehensive. Thank you.”
— Jaime Orzynski

“Bravo on your common sense dog site. I found it by accident when looking for information on a tracking problem. I taught general public ‘pet’ classes for 20 odd years and did in-home consultations. I now work for a large service dog organization. I am sick and tired of the kind of ‘trainers’ who make pet owners feel guilty for correcting their dogs and cause dogs to be given up on because they don’t respond to food waving. I use food and toys a lot when training, especially for my own competition dogs. But there has to be a bottom line, and for street and house-hold training ‘pure positive’ just doesn’t work. You are right; pet owners want quick results, they don’t have months to fix a problem. Good luck with your site– hope you get more exposure to the dog owning public.” –Pat Cook

“My bad!! I thought I wrote you to let you know that I received the videos but when I checked my email list, I didn’t!! I have since received them. They turned out pretty good. Just for the record: Since the day you trained him (and I reinforced it) ‘Lucky’ is still perimeter trained not to go off curbs and such without hearing ‘Take a break’ first. Thanks for that!!” –Dawn Rockford

“Dear Mr. Katz:

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

I am a professional trainer and the training director of a large breed rescue. I pride myself on being “method free” (ie, anything goes as long as it is effective and fair to the dog) and use prong collars, electronics, and slip collars on many of the dogs in my care. It has been an uphill battle for me, in the face of well-meaning pet owners and other “trainers” who think that I’m part of the Spanish Inquisition! But finally, people have noticed how successfully these dogs and their new owners respond to real-world training. And more importantly, how happy and well-adjusted they become. Many of them are surrendered for “behavioral problems” as diagnosed by the new wave of positive-only folks. My experience has proved that when a lot of these “trainers” can’t solve a problem with devices designed for dolphins, horses or human children, they recommend euthanasia. Very positive, eh? (I just wrote an article called “Positively Misleading” which was deemed too controversial for publication through our newsletter.)

I happened to be ordering some supplies and found your site; prepared to get all p.o’d again and…wow! Someone with a clue! Even better….someone willing to share the wealth. You can bet I will be sending my students, my employers and my like-minded and equally frustrated training colleagues to your site.

Anyway, thank you again for an oasis of common sense in the vast desert of empty theory, academic speculation and plain old denial. I say let dogs be dogs and let real dog trainers teach them!” — Julia Maclachlan, Derry, NH

“My new Rat Terrier has been with me for a few hours now. Already I have applied several of your techniques to get us off to a good start. She’s three years old, from a good home where she was slightly spoiled. In no time at all, I used gentle but firm vocal methods of correction to stop her from jumping up on me (e.g., low tones for commands, high for praise). Without your advice, I would have lovingly but mistakenly continued letting her climb all over me. I’m glad I discovered your book while looking for information. The fact that you revealed several tips on the Internet for free was the turning point in my decision as to whether to purchase.” — Mark Trevor Smith, July 14th, 2000

“I have just purchased your book and have found it excellent reading.” — Maxene Ricketts, Australia. July 27th, 2000

“I recently purchased your new videos on dog training and really enjoyed viewing them. And, again, thanks for your helpful videos.” — Sandi Lewis, Twentynine Palms, CA August 21, 2000.

“By the way, another success story… my wife and I picked up a high energy naughty black lab from the SPCA 18 months ago. He ripped 3 shirts clean off my body whenwe first got him. I was so angry and culls until I read your book. We broke him of several bad habits with the electronic collar: Biting, jumping, digging, etc. Now the dog is the perfect animal. He’s crate trained with 20 some commands. He’s more loving and affectionate than ever too. People tell me he’s now the perfect dog and I agree thanks to you.” — Benjamin Ringe, August 29th, 2000.

“… I also wanted to take the time to say thank you for all the help your book has given me in training the best dog a guy could ask for. (we all think OUR dog is the best, don’t we?) I’m starting to run out of things to train her to do.” — Brian Holmes, November 7th, 2000.

“Let me say first off that your book has helped us tremendously. It’s like we took a giant step in the right direction after reading it…” –– Mary Ann Wells, December 9th, 2000.

“Adam: I recently ordered & read your “Secrets” book and have to tell you how refreshing it is to find someone else with common sense! I’ve been involved in “dog sports” since the late 70’s and have trained and titled in both AKC obedience and Schutzhund. I’ve taught classes with a few groups and given private lessons as a ‘sideline’. I’ve always trained under the principle that all dogs are different and that what works well with one will not necessarily be so good with another. Like you, I am NOT “politically correct” and have not jumped on the “clicker” bandwagon and the “positive reinforcement only and the ban the “pinch collar” school of so-called “trainers”. My position cost me acceptance into the NADOI (I got over it), BUT two different judges made the remark that mine was one of the “happiest” Rottweilers doing obedience work that they had seen and several of my “students” have earned various titles, so something must be working! Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I thoroughly enjoyed your book and tapes. One of my long time “dreams” has been to do “dog work” as a full time job – I’m 45 & getting short on time I know! I will be ordering your Dog Training Business Kit in a few weeks and look forward to forward to a working relationship with you in the future. Keep up the good work. I hope you and your loved ones have a great holiday season.
— For the Sport!” — Chris Amick, December 12, 2000.

“Bravo and kudos to you. Keep up the good work. By the way had great success with the Housebreaking video.” — John Paise, Feb. 14th, 2001.

“My 5 month Flat Coat graduated in 2nd place out of 18 dogs in her Basic Obedience class, thanks to you book!” — Suzanne Murray, Feb. 15th, 2001

“I bought a copy of your book and really think your techniques make sense.” — Ann McCartan Patton, Lexington MA

“She passed ALL testing and got her CGC with excellent comments from the testors, even when around other dogs who got close to her. I want to thank you so much for the book and tapes. My pup was a tough dog in this area and the ‘motivation’ you suggested was the key.” — Donna Harrison, March 24th, 2001.

“Adam, I just read your e-mail on breaking up a dog fight. I do Schutzhund with my German Shepherd and this was the most informative subject I have seen in a long while. Thank you for getting right to the point and I hope people will read this and file it in their brains. Thank you again for your great letters.” — Les Hollander in New York.

“I just wanted to take this opportunity to tell you how much I appreciate your training site and weekly newsletter. I think you are “the best” trainer and appreciate your down to earth logical approach to dog training. Eventhough I have been training most of my life, I always appreciate reading and putting into practice training methods that really work in “everyday” situations. We are never too old to learn new methods and even when we know the methods, it’s great to have reminder’s. We have now added your book to our website and I am also going to hold some training classes for anyone in the group who wants to learn ‘our’ (yours and mine) method of training. Thank you again. Keep up the good work! –Lois Dugre, April 26th, 2001

“This note is long overdue: I want to thank you for your website and your dog training “kit”. The information you give is clear and strong. I would be hard pressed to find so much in so small a package. Despite your service being commercial, you show great generosity in the depth and quality of your work. I am delighted that you give the “only positive” training vogue short shrift. I try to impress on my clients that our relationship with dogs is totally unique – the stuff may work to a certain extent on many animals, (I’ve yet to see a Seeing Eye pussycat, for example) but it just doesn’t work on dogs!. I’ve bought the book and the training videos: I plan to buy the training business video. I’ve trained dogs for years (am on hiatus because of a back injury) but am very eager to see what you have to say about the Biz. I have no doubt I still have a lot to learn from you…”
— Kennia Riekert, April 27th, 2001.

“Incidentally: Loved your book (I’ve just read the download version so far). I had a brand new dog who was really bad at straining at his leash. I have obedience trained (really basic stuff) a couple of other dogs, but I had never encountered this problem before and didn’t know how to deal with it. After about 5 minutes of doing the techniques as recommended in your book, he fell right into step and kept very careful track of where I was from then on. Loose leash all the way. Thanks.”
— Roxanne Hebb, September 22, 2000.

“I love your book… It has come in so handy.” — Jameson R. Durall, Santa Monica, California, July 30th, 2001

“Your training was simple to follow and many have commented on how well she is trained in just the 3 short weeks we have had her and your training materials. Thanks again.” — David Jones, July 21, 2001

“I’m a subscriber to your email newsletter, which I enjoy reading. I’ve been a dog owner for more than 20 years and learned basic obedience training when I got my first pooch. Because of this training and my own ongoing interest dogs, my two middle-aged canines are pretty well behaved and I was satisfied. Nevertheless, your description of the Alon Geva video intrigued me and I ordered it.

What follows next is interesting. By mistake they sent me your Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer book and cassette tapes instead of what I ordered. I called, got the whole thing straightened out, and agreed to return the unordered materials. Then, curiosity got the better of me and I listened to the tapes. This rekindled my interest in doing a little brush up and gave me some new information. The last tape on where to buy dog stuff at a better price was especially helpful. My German shepherd as a “pancreatic insufficiency” and the prescription powdered enzymes I have to sprinkle on her food 3 meals a day was costing me $180 a month–after the $20 discount the vet has been giving me. The place mentioned on the tape sells the exact same medication for $150. Just that one tip will alone save me over $300 per year even after shipping costs. I haven’t even gotten into the book yet but I decided to keep “Secrets…” My questions is where do I send the $50? Thanks!” — Jim Davidson

“My wife surprised me yesterday. After three years of marriage, (wonderful years, indeed), and three years of life with three cats, she bought a nine-week old mixed-breed, beautiful Siberian Husky. Caught off guard, I had to scramble to the Internet (Thank God for it!) to get info on owning/training a puppy. Your site is so incredibly helpful! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the time and effort (not to mention cost) you have invested in presenting this information-packed web site. It has been made me feel comfortable with the new family member. It has inspired me and excited me about the joys of having a canine in the family. Thanks again for the love you have shown and inspired. May God continue to bless and prosper you in your endeavors. Peace and Wellness to you. Stay Safe!” — Mr. Robin M. Smith, Liberty, SC

“I received the tapes and book one week ago. I watched two tapes (coming when called and loose lease walking) last Monday night and immediately tried those that night. I could not believe it. The next evening I took her to a city park with a walk area. Other evenings I had her off lease and would chase her down if she took off toward people walking (no, treats didn’t work). However, after working with her for fifteen minutes where there were no people for a refresher, I walked over to another area of the park with a walking trail. The very first time she took off for other people I called her right before she hit the end of the rope with the correction collar. My foot was on the rope, but my arms were held out to greet her. She came flying back to me. She is fifteen weeks now, and we still work, practice and reinforce. It is such a relief to look forward to going out with her. I used to feel such frustration.” — John Fale, July 2, 2001.

“First off I have been meaning to email you to thank you for the time spent with me on the phone. I am the person that called from Northern Vermont inquiring into purchasing your business packet. It was very kind of you to spend so much of your time discussing dogs and obedience training with me. I still intend on purchasing that packet in the near future.

I ordered your book after our conversation and I have to tell you that I loved it!!!! You are the first author that I agreed with the techniques and applications 110%. I actually took the book on a little mini vacation and when I returned after reading it cover to cover, it motivated me to be a better instructor. I could sing your praises for many paragraphs on how fabulous your tactics are in the book, however, you know it, because you wrote it.

I hope people like you can turn the dog industry and public image around regarding the prong collar. I truly consider the prong to be my favorite piece of equipment when it comes to training. I believe it has saved dog’s lives and given them futures with their owners and perspective owners. I use to train shelter dogs for the local humane society, the behavior these dogs displayed did nothing positive toward getting them homes. I used the prong on most of them and within minutes the dogs were well on their way toward learning. I use prongs in my training program, my clients see the results quickly, this keeps the drop out rate low and the learning incentive high. It is motivating for clients to do the homework when they actually can see the results.

One last kudo to you and your book– I loved the part about cookie trainers equal to giving someone directions and never telling them they went the wrong way! That is an awesome analogy of clicker trainers.

Well I really don’t have any questions for you and I know you are a busy dude, but, I wanted to thank you very much and I hope to hear from you if ever venture to Vermont.” — Claire Silver, Holland, Vermont

“First of all I wanted to say how much I appreciate you getting tapes like these to the public. I wish they sold these at pet stores and maybe even the rescue shelters. You really are doing a great job. Thanks again for the videos, they’re awesome! I just got them yesterday, but they’ve already proved they were worth what I paid.” — Pete Lody, December 4th, 2001

“We spent around ten minutes working on the lead as your book suggested then went walking down the road. To tell you the truth I had to look down a couple of times just to make sure I still had my puppy on line. Sure enough there he was… right at my heal on a loose lead following my every move. WOW! No running around sniffing everything in sight or stopping to look or grab a mouth full of leaves or getting me and him tangled in the lead. He followed every move and every turn like he’d been doing it all his life. As far as I’m concerned your book has already paid for itself and then some.” — CJ White, Friday January 4th, 2002.

“I love you book. My husband and I always go back through it when we need a refresher. It really helped with her house training. For 6 months we couldn’t get it through to her, then after we read your book and started trying the techniques, it happened so fast. Now she even barks at the back door when she needs to go outside. It’s great!!!!” — Jennifer Purnell, Ontario Canada, January 9th, 2002.

“Amazing… I still can’t believe how quick the results were…

My son moved to the mainland (I live in Hawaii) and left Raider, his American Bulldog (female), with me. Raider was very difficult to walk, even as a puppy. She just made one year on January 14 and I’ve been trying to work with her since December 15.

Instead of walking she would drag the person walking her, including my son… she pulled so hard that she broke two leashes and a 1/2 inch thick rope… once a friend of ours used an old parachute line as a leash and she pulled so hard that the knot he tied started to come undone. I weigh 220 pounds and she used to drag me around like a rag doll and she probably only weighed around 65 – 70 pounds at the time.

Anyway, one day I opened her pen and she got away from me before I could get her leash on and I had a real hard time getting her to come, sit, stay or even look at me. That’s when I decided to surf the Internet for dog training information / help… and, came upon Dogproblems.com and your book “Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer!”. I ordered your book on January 12th started reading the downloaded version that night and the next day took her out for “our” first training session.

Using your techniques and switching from a “Choke Chain” to a “Pinch Collar” I was able to stop her from pulling on the leash in less than 5 minutes. Now, when I open her pen she doesn’t set her paws pass the gate unless I give her the release to come out… AND, when she comes out of the pen she doesn’t dart away; instead, she comes to my side and sits.

She now weighs 85 pounds and thanks to your techniques I’m not being dragged around like a rag doll anymore.” — Ponce Galera and Raider, January 29th, 2002.

“Your book has made me a much better pet owner and my 2 year old female Dobie
a much better canine citizen. The audio and video tapes are great. If you publish another book I will order it the first day it is available!” — Weber Pharis, February 11th, 2002.

“Loved your book!” — Rachel in Massachusettes, February 12, 2002.

He is now a registered Therapy Dog and certified “Service Dog” to assist a person about to fall as in perhaps an epilepsy attack or a faltered step. Personally I have qualified for Tester Observer for Therapy Dogs Inc.. I love the dog environmente so much that I will be getting involved in training.

I just want to start off by saying that I am an avid fan of your weekly email, something I have found very educational and beneficial to me and my adventure to Alpha-Male status with my husky. I was at first skeptical of purchasing all the books, but now am sure that it is a wise investment! My question to you is just about the discussion board you keep mentioning and how I can access it?

Thank you,

I just had to write to you to say a huge “THANK YOU!!!” for your instruction. I’ve been checking out your website for nearly three years and had ordered your book and vids a while back. I’ve never emailed or anything simply ’cause your instructions are so simple and easy to use and my dog is a people-pleaser with no vices. But today was different. Not in my dog but in a neighbor’s. This morning I was awoken by the sound of my neighbor frantically calling for his dog. It seems their front gate was open when she was let out this morn and she decided to “take a stroll”. She’s a sweet 2yr old (I think) beagle. Cute as a button and smart as a whip. But they’ve done no training with her outside of taking her for walks when the weather is nice. She’s been gone for nearly two hours now. They’ve scoured the neighborhood and haven’t yet found her.

My dog likes to run around as well and takes every opportunity to do so. But he always looks to me. The two times he did take off around a house where I couldn’t see him, all I had to do was to tell him to come back and he did. Running full-tilt to come to a stop at my side, panting with a huge doggie grin on his face! I realized this morning how wonderful it is to have used your techniques to train my loving dog to come when called, and to not stray far. He’s such a good boy and we always get compliments when we’re out. (We especially like to show off at Petsmart where they use treats and clickers!!) So thank you again!

And please pardon the extreme length of my thank-you note!
With Great Doggie-Thanks,
– Deanna and Zorro

I just wanted to tell you that I thoroughly enjoy your comments and responses to some of the questions that you receive. I laughed right out loud at today’s email from Yolanda wondering if her new dog would be afraid of her. (You replied, “How ugly are you?”) You have a very quick wit and say the things that I’d love to say sometimes&Thank you for the entertainment and the wonderful training information also. I purchased your book when my chocolate lab was 8 weeks old and it’s been absolutely invaluable. He’s just a year old now and I still refer to the book sometimes–but you are the reason I have a wonderful dog as part of our family.

I just wanted to let you know that i very much enjoy your site and everything on it.Just can`t get enough about training my dog.

I have a part black lab that i adopted and do not know how old she is but she does know how to sit and shake paws and lay down but she has an awful habit of digging and chewing sticks or anything outdoors.

Keep up the great work.

I will keep reading.

I purchased your book and DVD on walking your dog on a loose leash. I was very pleased with both!

I am currently taking my dog to obedience classes , we have been working on the loose leash and I needed a little extra help. She was walking on a leash without tugging but two steps ahead of me so I did not have 51 percent of her attention. After purchasing your video and using your technique she now walks beside me, I love taking her for a walk. She knows her commands and does very good at home but at class with other dogs and distractions it is a struggle. Thank you. – Bob

It’s amazing how a 90 lb Doberman can have such little impact on my life. You know, he doesn’t hamper my lifestyle at all…he doesn’t destroy anything…he doesn’t get underfoot, or beg…he just gets along with me and other people so well. I know that’s because of your training methods, and my constant attention to them while he was a puppy. At 2 years now, I think we can both honestly say that he is as happy and well adjusted as a dog gets because he understands all the rules, and that they always apply.

I love your e-zine. I’m a successful business owner and I must say, your tips work for any environment – human or canine.

I found you as I was searching for help with my new puppy, Dante, a Parson Russell Terrier. Even though I was exposed to his mother on a week long trip, I knew this dog was going to require a more direct approach in his training than my corgi.

And if I may brag a bit, Dante is now 6 months old and everyone compliments him on being the perfect little gentleman. He does not jump on people, sits for his greeting, waits for me to go out the door, knows sit, heel, down, dead, wait, drop it, climb, off and loves his crate.

Every dog owner who truly cares for their pet should have them in a pinch collar as soon as possible. Dante was 4 months old when I found you and your wisdom. Oh yes, Dante wanted out of that collar and he did swing around on the end of his leash and he tried all antics… but I just kept on walking and turning and walking and turning. After about 5 minutes he finally made the right choice and continues to be a dream to walk – either on or off the leash. I love to watch him make his choices – me or a rabbit. And so far, he keeps making the right ones!

So, Adam, this is a thank you for your wisdom. Keep those tips coming.

Sincerely,

” I just wanted to let you know that I purchased your video series on dog training several years ago. We had a new puppy that was born blind. Making sure he stayed on our property was very important to us. He is 6 years older now and everyone in the neighborhood loves him. He is so well mannered and never runs away. In fact when people ask me why he is such a good dog I always tell them it is because of those videos. Thanks, David Warren” February 6th, 2007

“Hey Adam!!! Just a note to thank you very much for attending our gathering for 3 days. It was really an honor to have someone with the knowledge and background that you have with dogs and people in attendance. Many of our trainers have bought your books and various material and found it very helpful, and were thrilled to have someone like yourself there to pick your brain not only on training, but marketing as well. You did a great job in being one of the judges in our competitions as well. Last but not least, I really wanted to commend you in getting out there and grabbing some dogs and our collar during the training at the shelter. I always judge trainers by how they train dogs, and not just solely on what they say about it. A lot of trainers would get very intimidated by coming to one of our events, and have to perform around all of our other graduates, even though you are not a graduate yourself. Your dog knowledge, and attention to what we were doing, surely had you step right out there and shine from the get go. It was also fun watching very established trainers of ours like Toni Drugmand, just hand you her competition dog and let you work with the dog for quite a while. I’m sure Toni recognized your abilities in letting you do that. Thanks again for attending our event, and hopefully you can come back next year as well! Thanks again and take care” — Fred Hassen, owner of Sit Means Sit (http://www.sitmeanssit.com) October 31st, 2007

Dear Adam/Dog Problems.com,

I can’t tell you how much your book and website SAVED our dog. I mean, literally SAVED her. Chloe is an adopted shelter dog of mixed breed. We think she has some Chow, Golden Retriever, and some sort of herding breed in her. We adopted her in July of 2007 and were told her age to be somewhere between 2 and 3 years old. The first year she lived with us, she was an angel. We took her everywhere with us and she was my running partner 5 or 6 days per week. We crate her when we are not home but she doesn’t seem to mind. She is a fantastic runner and did long runs (I am a marathon runner) up to 15 miles with me.

We noticed behavior changes little by little but didn’t put it all together until nearly a year and a half later. She showed signs of aggression towards strangers and became so unpredictable we were unable to take her anywhere with us. She would go after people on bikes, skateboards, or just walkers or other runners. She began to show signs of aggression towards me in our home when I tried to put her in her crate (or pull her off the bed) and she didn’t want to go.

At my wit’s end, I called several local resources (and some not so local). I called the shelter hotline, that guaranteed behavioral help. They would not deal with any aggression issues. I called pet behavior specialists who wanted $125.00 per hour. I got in contact with “America’s Dog Whisperer” who GUARANTEED “curing” her for $500 in an afternoon. I am teacher and my husband is in medical school. We did not have the funding to do ANY of this. We were fighting and crying and finally decided to take her back to the shelter but feared she would be euthanized (even though they were a no-kill shelter, because she would’ve been labeled aggressive). Then we found your website online.

After reading the whole book we learned that she thought she was in charge of us! Her “aggressiveness” was just HER trying to correct US. We began doggy bootcamp and the nothing in life is free program right away and saw immediate results. After hard work and 2 months of following your training advice it is like I have a new dog. She LISTENS to me!!! She comes when I call her, sits and goes down when I ask her to and we even began running together again. The other weekend we did a Sunday morning run on a crowded bike/running path full of distractions (bikes, skateboards, runners, walkers, strollers). She was an ANGEL. I was so happy I almost cried. She is not perfect, but neither are we. We still have to correct her in the apartment at times but nothing like before. I am still very cautious and aware of EVERYONE around us while we are out running but she is making tons of progress. I get compliments from neighbors about how well-behaved she is! (I also notice a lot of neighborhood dogs and owners who could really use your book!)

Most importantly, she is a happier dog. She is getting her exercise (at least 2 miles of walking or running a day) and she is behaving so much better at home. She knows her limits. We even had houseguests twice in the past month for a few days and she was an angel with them too.

I think your book and website will (and probably already has) saved a lot of dog lives. How many other people were like us and thought we had an aggressive dog on our hands that couldn’t be trained to live in a busy apartment complex with lots of strangers/distractions? How many people give their dogs back to the shelter where they are deemed “lost causes”? We are thrilled with the results and the training doesn’t stop here. We have more work to do with her and confident in her abiliities.

Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts (especially Chloe’s!) I have attached 2 pictures of her. Yes she is on the couch for one of them, but that was before we trained her not to be! The other one is when she jumped in the bathtub one day.

Sincerely,
– Julie & Keith Yimoyines and our dog, Chloe

Hi, Adam.

This is Smokey. I am handicapped and he is young but he helps me
out. I am in a wheelchair 90% of the time and he gets me different
things, he is also my protector.

He is half black lab and half boxer, his mother is full blooded boxer.
He was sorta trained when my ordained minister friend gave him to me
he is going on 5 months old and he’s my son. I also love your site
very much. Thanks for all the advice I get from you,

Hi, Adam.

This picture shows Boz (L.) and Carly (R.). They are best buddies.
I am sure that you already know this, but just in case your readers
are wondering, Boz is an American Staffordshire Terrier and Carly is
an American Pit bull Terrier. The second picture is just Boz.

I may be biased, but I really feel that Boz is a beautiful dog. Since
you are requesting pictures, I am looking forward to seeing other
peoples’ beloved dogs, too!

Have a great day!

Dear Adam,

Two days ago I ordered your program out of desperation. My
2 year old Belgian Malinois, a very dominant 90 pound bundle
of energy, attacked his pack mate while we were out. Blood
was everywhere when we arrived home (including on our good
carpets), and our sweet-tempered lab mix was in pretty sad
shape. My husband, already fed-up with the dominance
behaviors and stubbornness of the dog, demanded that we get
rid of him.

I have had this dog for exactly one year, having agreed to
take him from my daughter who simply couldn’t handle him.
He has completed three obedience training sessions (passed
advanced basic), and I have had a trainer come to the house.
During this past year I have put my heart and soul into
getting this dog in line, trying everything I was taught to
do. I was almost convinced that something as simple as walking
beside me (instead of in front of me) on a leash was not
going to happen. I had just about given up.

I watched your video about walking a dog. Of course I
didn’t believe there was anything that would work, and your
claim about it taking 8 or 10 minutes seemed ridiculous.
Well, I tried it, and that number is wrong — it was more
like sixty seconds! My dog did a perfect heel for a quarter
mile walk for the first time ever. I’m so happy I can’t
begin to tell you — and utterly amazed. Nobody could have
made me believe this was possible. I would have paid much
more for your course for just that video. Now I’m reading
your book and beginning to use some of your other alpha dog
techniques, and results are happening already.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!
